LCRA, BLUEBONNET CO-OP AWARD $14,835 GRANT TO ROSANKY COMMUNITY CENTER

 2020
A $14,835 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority and Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative will help the Rosanky Community Center make important updates to the historic schoolhouse it calls home.

The Community Development Partnership Program grant, along with $7,988 in matching funds, will allow the center to replace 40-year-old windows with new energy-efficient ones while still maintaining the original look of the century-old building. The grant will also pay for insulation, new air conditioning units and a new septic system.

“The old historic schoolhouse is more than 100 years old,” said James Rose, Rosanky Community Center president. “We’re responsible for keeping the old charm of historic buildings, but also making them better for the community to enjoy, and that’s what this grant will help us do.”

The community center is open seven days a week and is available for rentals. It is a popular site for events including weddings, holiday gatherings, graduations and voting.

“It’s wonderful to have this grant,” Rose said. “We wouldn’t have been able to do all this without it, and would’ve made the septic system alone our top priority. We’re very grateful to LCRA and Bluebonnet.”

The community grant is one of 28 grants awarded recently through LCRA’s Community Development Partnership Program, which provides economic development and community assistance grants to cities, counties, volunteer fire departments, regional development councils and other nonprofit organizations in LCRA’s wholesale electric and water service areas. The program is part of LCRA’s effort to give back to the communities it serves. Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative is one of LCRA’s wholesale electric customers and a partner in the grant program.

Applications for the next round of grants will be accepted July 1-31. More information is available at lcra.org/cdpp.
