Save time and help us quickly restore power using Outage Alerts texts.

If Bluebonnet has your cell phone number on file, in March you will receive a welcome text giving you the ability to report outages and get outage status updates. Plus, if another member has already reported it, you’ll get an automatic text saying we know about your outage.

You will receive a welcome text from the number 85700. Save it with an easy-to-remember name, like Bluebonnet Outages.

From there you can:
  • Text OUT to that number if your power is out.
  • Text STATUS if you want an update and estimated restoration time. You will also get a text when your power is restored.
  • Text HELP for more information or call 800-842-7708 from 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Monday-Friday.
  • Text STOP if you don’t want to receive Outage Alerts.

Outage Alerts text service FAQ

Why am I getting a text message about an outage alerts service?
Bluebonnet has automatically enrolled any member cell phone number the co-op has on file in the Outage Alerts text service. This feature allows members to quickly notify Bluebonnet when their power is out. Enrolled members will also receive text alerts when Bluebonnet becomes aware of an outage at their property, along with estimated restoration time and when power has been restored. Despite the possibility that a member may receive a notice of power being out at his or her property, members are urged to still continue to report outages unless they receive a text that the co-op is aware of the outage.

What if I have more than one property?
When Bluebonnet is aware of an outage, affected members will receive a separate text for each of their properties that are out of power. Each text will note the property that is out of power. If you are reporting the outage and have more than one property, you will be asked to designate which one is out. You will also be asked if any of your other properties are out of power.

Do I need to take any further action?
When you receive the welcome text, consider saving the number (85700) in your phone, perhaps naming it “Bluebonnet outages.” If your power goes out and you don’t receive a text alert, you can report the outage by texting OUT to that number. After that, you will receive confirmation that your outage has been reported. Text STATUS to receive updates, including an estimated time of restoration and possibly a cause.

Do I have to text those words in all caps, and what happens if I text something else?
The system we use is not case sensitive. If you text a different word, though, you will receive an automatic reply that says, “Outage Alerts text service is an automated system. Text OUT to report an outage, STATUS for outage update, HELP for more info.”

I don’t want these alerts. How can I stop getting them?
You can respond STOP to the text you received (from the number 85700) at any time. To register again, text BBOUTAGE to 85700 or call member services at 800-842-7708.

Now that I’m enrolled, do I still need to report my outages?
Yes. However, if you receive a text message that we are aware of an outage at your property, you do not need to call us to report your outage. If you receive a text that your power has been restored but you’re still out of power, text OUT to 85700. Make sure that you select the correct location of the outage if you are given more than one option.

I have a limited data plan, so how often will I get these alerts?
The number of text messages will vary per member and will only be sent out to communicate important information related to power outages at your property, but you can always stop this feature by texting STOP to 85700. If you ever want to re-enroll, text BBOUTAGE to 85700 or call member services at 800-842-7708.

What do I need to do if my cell phone number changes?
To update your contact information, you can log in at and go to the Preferences tab. On the mobile app, go to the Alerts tab. You may also call member services at 800-842-7708, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Can I sign up to get alerts on more than one cell phone number?
Yes, the same alert can be sent out to as many as two cell phone numbers at up to nine service locations.

I want to sign up. How do I do that?
If we have your current cell phone number on file, you will automatically be enrolled when you receive our welcome text. If you opted out or have a new cell phone number, you can text BBOUTAGE to 85700 or call member services at 800-842-7708.

What other text alerts can I sign up for?
Bluebonnet members can sign up for customized text or email alerts in case their bill reaches a certain amount, their daily energy use spikes or they want to know their cost, usage and environmental impact. Log in at or on our mobile app, and find alerts in the Preferences tab online or the Alerts tab on the app. You may also call member services at 800-842-7708.
