Bluebonnet to upgrade power lines in Bastrop County

Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative members near Elgin in Bastrop County will experience temporary power outages Wednesday, Nov. 7, as crews complete an upgrade to electric distribution lines. The upgrade will increase the voltage carried through the power lines and is needed to continue to reliably serve the growing demand for electricity in the area.

Bluebonnet will interrupt power twice to complete the upgrade. The first outage will be between 9 and 10 a.m. to 368 members near FM 1704, VFW Road, Old Sayers Road, Highway 95 South, Jordan Lane, Elm Wood Drive, Dogwood Drive, Spanish Oak Trail, Pin Oak Crossing, and Arbors Circle.

The second outage will be between 11 a.m. and noon, and affect 1,167 members near FM 1704, Monkey Road, Beaver Road, Powell Lane, Arbuckle Road, Old Sayers Road, Wayside Drive, Wayside Court, Youngs Prairie Road, Balch Road, Tingle Road, Lower Elgin Road, McShan Lane, Hidden Oaks Lane, Hickory Lane, Wilson Road and Coon Neck Road.

“Safety is our top priority on every job,” said Matt Bentke, Bluebonnet’s general manager. “We will have about 60 Bluebonnet employees and contractors, and about 30 vehicles in the area working to complete this conversion with as little impact on our members as possible. We take every precaution possible to make these jobs safe, and ask that residents in the area be cautious and aware of our crews.”

Bluebonnet will also call every member who will be affected by the outage to inform them of the day and period of time they will be without power.
