The four incumbent directors who were re-elected by general consent in accordance with the co-op's bylaws are Byron Balke, District 6, Austin, Colorado and Fayette counties; Roderick L. Emanuel, District 3, Bastrop County; Russell Jurk, District 4, Lee, Milam and Williamson counties; and Robert Mikeska, District 7, Washington County.

Four Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative directors up for election this year were unopposed in their respective races and, in accordance with the co-op’s bylaws, were elected by general consent. The incumbent directors who were re-elected are Byron Balke, District 6, Austin, Colorado and Fayette counties; Roderick L. Emanuel, District 3, Bastrop County; Russell Jurk, District 4, Lee, Milam and Williamson counties; and Robert Mikeska, District 7, Washington County.

“This is the third time in the last four years that incumbent directors were unopposed in their races for re-election,” said Matt Bentke, Bluebonnet’s general manager. “The year an incumbent director had an opponent, she was overwhelmingly re-elected by our members. That is testament to the confidence our members have in their directors and satisfaction with their leadership.”

One of the benefits of being a member of an electric co-op is a democratically elected board of directors. Bluebonnet’s members elect their directors, who serve staggered three-year terms. One third of the 11-member board of directors is up for election every year.

Because the directors were unopposed and re-elected by general consent, there will be no board election during Bluebonnet’s Annual Meeting, Tuesday, May 9, at the Sons of Hermann Hall in Giddings. However, members can still submit proxy to be used if an agenda item during the Annual Meeting requires voting. Voting by proxy is a way for co-op members who are unable to attend the Annual Meeting to participate in elections and have a say in the important cooperative issues.

Members who attend this year’s Annual Meeting will hear a state-of-the-cooperative report, learn of milestones Bluebonnet reached in 2016, have the opportunity to take care of Bluebonnet business and be entered in a drawing for door prizes. More information on the co-op’s Annual Meeting is available on Bluebonnet’s website and in the April edition of Texas Co-op Power magazine.
