The Dale Community Center will air condition its gymnasium and make other repairs thanks to a $39,600 community development grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority and Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative.

The community center will use the grant, along with $9,900 of local matching funds, to install air conditioning and repair windows and flooring in the gym, and replace wiring and lights on the gym stage and in the equipment room.
“The community center makes Dale unique among other small communities by giving us a great place to gather for events,” said Beverly West, Dale Community Center secretary. “Air conditioning the gym makes the center useable year-round. It also means more rental income that will help with the upkeep of this wonderful building, and more community events and a more active youth program. Thank you to LCRA and Bluebonnet for this grant.”

The Dale Community Center, which was built in 1905 as the Dale School, was deeded to the Dale Community Center Board of Trustees in the 1950s. The board operates the facility as a recreational and community event center for Dale residents and surrounding communities. The gym has a full basketball court and is open for youth recreation. Private schools and church groups use the gym for sports practices and volunteer groups use the building for fundraisers. The building also is used for receptions, reunions and quinceaneras.
The community grant is awarded through LCRA’s Community Development Partnership Program, which provides economic development and community assistance grants to cities, counties, volunteer fire departments, regional development councils and other nonprofit organizations in LCRA’s electric and water service areas. The program is part of LCRA’s effort to give back to the communities it serves. Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative is one of LCRA’s wholesale electric customers and a partner in the grant program.
Applications for the next round of grants are due Jan. 31, 2017. More information is available at
