Bastrop – Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative’s directors appointed Shana Whiteley to fill the District 2 seat representing Travis County on the cooperative’s 11-member Board of Directors. The District 2 seat was left vacant by the resignation of Director Suanna Tumlinson.

“We are thrilled to welcome Shana to Bluebonnet’s Board of Directors,” said Board Chair Ben Flencher. “Bluebonnet’s members, particularly those in Travis County, are very fortunate to have Shana joining the organization. She made quite an impression on the Board and clearly cares deeply for and believes in serving her community. I am confident she will have an immediate positive impact on the co-op.”

Whiteley was the only applicant to fill the District 2 seat. A Board Vacancy committee, chaired by Director Milton Shaw and including Directors Tumlinson, Roderick Emanuel and Byron Balke, reviewed Whiteley’s application and interviewed her. During its December meeting, the Board received the committee’s recommendation to appoint Whiteley and unanimously voted to approve it. Whiteley will join Bluebonnet’s Board in January 2018.

“I am pleased and honored to be chosen to represent Bluebonnet’s members,” Whiteley said. “I have always admired Bluebonnet for all the great things it does in the communities it serves. During this process, I have come to admire and appreciate it even more. This is a wonderful organization and I look forward to contributing to its success.”

Whiteley grew up on a farm between Pflugerville and Manor in Travis County. She is a successful entrepreneur, owning and operating two restaurants, the Good Luck Grill in Manor and the Lucky Duck Cafe in Taylor, employing nearly 40 full- and part-time workers. In addition to her experience running restaurants, Whiteley has helped others achieve success as a business facilitator with the United States Peace Corps in the Ukraine. She graduated from Texas Tech University with a bachelor of science in hotel, restaurant and institutional management, and earned a master of business administration from Texas State University.

Whiteley believes in giving back to and serving the community in which she lives. She supports the Travis County Youth Association, Rodeo Austin and the Wilbarger Creek 4-H club. She is a current member of the Taylor and Manor Chambers of Commerce, and served as president of the Manor chamber in 2012. She is the proud parent of a middle school-aged son.

Whiteley will serve out the District 2 unexpired term. She will be up for re-election in May 2018.
