MEMBER SERVICE Q&A

More on LED security lights

Q: Can I get more details about Bluebonnet’s program for LED security lights?

A: Actually, we recently expanded that program that was first launched about a year ago.

LED (light-emitting diode) fixtures are now offered for all new security lights, instead of the standard high-pressure sodium and mercury vapor lights used previously. Members who request a security light or whose existing lights can no longer be repaired will receive, at no additional cost, one of three sizes offered: 53-, 94- or 140-watt LEDs. Members with existing, working security lights can have a new LED light installed for $125.

LED lights are more energy-efficient, long-lasting, environmentally friendly and cast a whiter light. They also cause less light pollution, meaning your area is illuminated well for safety but there’s less interference with stargazing. Bluebonnet has installed 1,783 of the LEDs since the change began about a year ago. The recent addition of 94- and 140-watt LEDs will allow us to replace all sodium lights.

To learn more, call a member service representative at 800-842-7708 during business hours or email memberservices@bluebonnet.coop. You can also request a new LED fixture by logging in at bluebonnet.coop, then clicking on Request Service at the top of the home page and following the prompts.
