Scholarships and Trips

Bluebonnet believes in investing in the future — our youth. That’s why we’re proud to offer opportunities for young people within our communities to learn and grow.

BLUEBONNET ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE, INC. SCHOLARSHIPS OF EXCELLENCE
Bluebonnet is proud to award in 2010 thirty-five (35) one-time, $2,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors residing in the home of a parent or legal guardian who is a Bluebonnet member. Bluebonnet has two scholarship programs. One is the Academic Scholarship program for students who plan to pursue an academic degree. The second is a Trade and Technical Scholarship program for students who plan to seek a vocational certificate to a trade or technical program. Bluebonnet's mission is to help our service area students to receive the knowledge and skill to achieve their career goals as they become part of our community.

To be eligible for a Bluebonnet Academic Scholarship the applicant must:

  • Be a graduating senior of a high school or an accredited Home Extended Studies program.
  • Be living in the home of a parent or legal guardian who is a full time resident in the Bluebonnet service area and maintains an active Bluebonnet account.
  • Be able to provide an original high school transcript with class size, ranking and a GPA of 2.75 or higher (based on an 85 to 100 point scale).
  • Turn in a completed Bluebonnet 2010 academic scholarship application which must be typed and signed by 5:00 p.m., March 19, 2010.

To be eligible for a Bluebonnet Trade & Technical Scholarship the applicant must:

  • Be a graduating senior of a high school or an accredited Home Extended Studies program.
  • Be living in the home of a parent or legal guardian who is a full time resident in the Bluebonnet service area and maintains an active Bluebonnet account.
  • Turn in a completed Bluebonnet 2010 trade & technical scholarship application which must be typed and signed by 5:00 p.m. March 19, 2010.

Both scholarship information and requirements are available at all Bluebonnet Member Service Centers in Bastrop , Brenham, Giddings, Lockhart and Manor, through area high school counselors or at www.bluebonnetelectric.coop . The application is easy to complete on our website.

2010 GOVERNMENT IN ACTION YOUTH TOUR
Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative, Inc. sponsors two high school students from the Bluebonnet service area to visit and tour our nation's capitol and meet their members of congress. This is the 45th year that electric cooperatives across America have sponsored students from rural areas and small towns to participate in this unique program; it is Bluebonnet's 42nd year to be part of this once-in-a-life-time opportunity. This experience has provided me with a lifetime of knowledge and memories. The tour itself was phenomenal.

Jonathan Spiess, 2009 GYT recipient – Bellville High School –
On this trip my favorite landmarks were the war memorials and Mount Vernon. I was able to meet all kinds of interesting people throughout the trip.

To be eligible to apply a student must be:

  • A student of 10, 11, or 12 grade, living full time in the home of a parent or legal guardian who is a full time resident in the Bluebonnet service area and maintains an active account.
  • Be able to participate in the tour to Washington , D.C.
  • Must be able to attend oral presentation and personal interview contest on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the Bastrop Headquarters.
  • Turn in a completed Bluebonnet 2010 Government In Action Youth Tour application which must be typed and signed by 5:00 p.m. , February 19, 2010.

Applicants for either opportunity should take care to fully complete the application, have a parent or legal guardian sign it and be sure all requirements included with the application packet are fully met prior to submitting the application to Bluebonnet by the required deadline.
