For Immediate Release: Contact: Will Holford or Barbara Turner October 9, 2009 (512) 332-7955 or (512) 308-7508 Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative and Contractor Receive Awards for Excellent Safety Programs (Bastrop) - Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative and Dig Tech were each honored with a Safety Award by the Texas Mutual Insurance Co., writers of Bluebonnet’s workers’ compensation policy, in recognition for their commitment to Health and Safety. Nomination for the awards were made by the Texas Mutual Loss Prevention consultant for the account and was based on Bluebonnet’s and Dig Tech’s safety programs. Only 164 awards were given out of the 48,000 Texas Mutual Insurance accounts. “Texas Mutual is committed to making our state a safer place to work, but we can’t do it alone,” said Steve Bills, Texas Mutual loss prevention services manager. “We need partners like Bluebonnet; they understand the human and monetary costs of workplace accidents, and they have committed the resources to keep their employees safe and on the job.” Dig Tech, Bluebonnet’s underground utility contractor since 1988, was awarded its own safety certification by Texas Mutual, which is rarely given to contractors. “Bluebonnet and Dig Tech are both great companies to work with,” said Marie Nicholson Texas Mutual Loss Prevention Consultant. “Their safety programs are excellent.” “Without the help and support from our managers and awesome employees, Bluebonnet never could have achieved such a high level of safety,” said Allen Anderson, Bluebonnet Safety Services Manager. “All of our employees exercise the dedication and hard work necessary to make safety for themselves, our members, and the communities we serve one of Bluebonnet’s Foundation Values.” “We’re very proud of this award,” said Mike Furry co-owner and vice-president of Dig Tech. “Dig Tech/Line Tech is extremely committed to safety and this award only validates that commitment. We work closely with Bluebonnet and are held to a very high standard when it comes to safety on their property and in their work and we’re happy to see our commitment is worthy of their expectations. It’s the first time our commitment to safety has been recognized by an outside source.” Dig Tech Safety and Training Coordinator, Glenda Furry works with many resources to maintain an excellent safety program and works continuously to make sure all employees are up to date on all certifications and safety training. “Our employees deserve most of the credit for our success in terms of safety,” said Glenda. “Without their dedication and awareness of safety we would never be able to reach our goals. Our commitment to safety from a management standpoint can only ultimately be achieved by our employees’ willingness to follow safe work practices.
