Understanding it

Unsure how to read your Bluebonnet electric bill? Click here to view a sample of your electric bill and understand what it consists of.

So, what magic formula does Bluebonnet use to conjure up your monthly electric bill total? There’s nothing magical about it. Here’s how we calculate a residential electric bill:

Wholesale Power Cost

  • The number of kilowatt hours (kWh) used, multiplied by the power supply rate factor of 0.072674,

plus

  • the number of kWh used, multiplied by the power cost recovery factor (the PCRF varies with the cost of producing wholesale power and is shown on your bill),

Bluebonnet Residential Service

  • The number of kilowatt hours (kWh) used, multiplied by the energy rate factor of 0.023948,

plus

  • a monthly member charge of $22.50.

Example:

You used 1,000 kWh for the month, and the current PCRF is 0.000.

Wholesale Power Cost

1,000 kWh x 0.072674=

$72.67

1,000 kWh x 0.000=

$0.00

Bluebonnet Residential Service

1,000 kWh x 0.023948=

$23.95

Member Charge=

$22.50

Total Charges

$119.12

Wholesale Power Cost – recovers the cost of power supplied by Bluebonnet’s wholesale providers of electric generation. Wholesale Power Cost includes a power cost recovery factor (PCRF) that varies based on the fluctuations in generating costs due to power market conditions and the cost of fuels.

Bluebonnet Service – recovers that cost of providing electricity to your home through Bluebonnet’s electric distribution system. The Bluebonnet Service cost also includes a set member charge that recovers the cost of meter reading, billing, postage, payment processing and member services.
